Invaders 37 - Renegades 0

The Fargo Invaders are your 2016 NSFL Champions after beating the Granite City Renegades 37-0! The Invaders had continual success all year long, resulting in an undefeated record to end the season at 11-0! The Invaders had a very strong field presence that was felt immediately to begin the game. An overall strong effort on both sides of the ball is what led the Invaders to this victory, just like most games this season.
The Invader offense had an efficient day ending the game with a total of 247 yards, with 156 of those coming from the pass game. Tony Stauss went 7-11 for 87 yards and an interception while Justan Taliaferro went 1-5 for 30 yards and a TD. The ground game was dominant again with CT Davis rushing for 73 yards on 9 attempts and a TD, while Brandon Jones had 20 yards on 5 attempts and a rushing TD as well. Jon Baune tallied the most receptions in this contest, coming down with 5 for 65 yards. Micah Arnold had 2 receptions for 35 yards and a TD on the day.
The defense shut out the GC Renegades, but let up 197 yards which is more than usual. The Renegades had a very strong rush game ending with 126 yards. The Invaders took away the passing game by swarming the quarterback and making him force passes which resulted in the defense intercepting 4 of them. Brandon Sloan had a monster day, hauling in 2 interceptions and bringing one of them back for a TD. Jermaine Marcellus and David Earl intercepted the other 2. Jeremy Gordon led the team in total tackles with 15.

Renegades defense holds down Patriots

By Renegades Staff 08/08/2016, 11:15am CDT

Renegades win 14-8

New Hope – The Renegades have made franchise history by beating the South Metro Patriots on the 6th by a score of 14-8.  The game was expected to be a defensive battle and it turned out to be that just indeed.  The Renegades were held to just over 100 yards of total offense.  QB, Ryan Fay went 7 of 15 for 53 yards and 1 TD to WR Devin Payment, who also scored a two point conversion.  RB Sean Hayden led the ground game with 45 yards and a rushing TD.

The big plays came on defense.  The Renegades put up 7 sacks led by All Star Kyle Crozon with 3 of them and 8 tackles.  The defense held the Patriots offense to negative yards in the 1st half.  The secondary was ice cold keeping Patriots QB Brandon King from doing anything in the 2nd Qtr as well.  The Renegades defense sealed the game with a INT from Ben DeLisle in the last minute of the game.

The Renegades will be heading to Fargo to battle the Invaders in Premier Bowl VI for the 1st time in the teams history.  The Renegades have not been able to score on the Invaders defense all year, so the odds are against the Renegades already.  The Renegades offense has been on fire as of late with a solid running game behind their All Star Offensive line.  QB Ryan Fay will have a full arsenal of weapons this time.  Each of the two games the Renegades and Invaders have played have come where the Renegades have been short handed.  The game will be played on the 13th at 6 PM at the Invaders home field.

Invaders Up-end Sabercats in Semi-Finals

By Bryce Johnson 08/06/2016, 9:16pm CDT

Invaders 60 - Sabercats 6

The Fargo Invaders took on the Twin Cities Sabercats in the semi-finals of the Northern States Football League playoffs and improved to 10-0, defeating them 60-6. The Invaders strong defense is what set the tempo for the night, ending the game with 2 defensive TD’s and a safety. Overall, a very solid performance by the Invaders, and exactly what they needed heading into the Championship game next weekend.

The Invader offense came out a bit slow to start the game, having early turnovers and getting stuffed short of the goal line on fourth down. The score was 9-0 at the 2 minute warning when the Defense stepped up & scored two Touchdowns right before the half.  After watching the defense have continual success, it eventually rubbed off on the offense. Tony Stauss ended the game with 139 yards on 10/20 passing and 2 INTs, while Justan Taliaferro went 4/8 for 54 yards and a TD. CT Davis continues to find the end zone game after game, this time rushing for 3 TD’s along with 77 yards. Brett Baune added a 48 yard Touchdown, finishing with 3 carries for 83 yards.  Micah Arnold had a good game rushing, having 2 carries for 90 yards and a rushing TD. Ty Small led the game in receptions, hauling in 5 catches for 64 yards. The Invader offense put up a total of 516 yards.

The defense for the Invaders came up huge in this game, routinely making big plays that had even bigger effects on the game. Some very key stops were made near the goal line early on to keep the Sabercats scoreless, while the offense was still trying to find its footing. David Earl made a big play in the first quarter to give the Invaders some much needed momentum, making a huge hit on the Sabercats’ QB Travis Griffin forcing the fumble (picture below), and also recovering it to give the offense the ball. Josh Gaitlin, David Earl, and Brandon Sloan all had an INT on the day for the Invaders. The defense had a total of 11 sacks and gave up 186 yards of total offense.

The Fargo Invaders advance to the league championship that will be played at Shanley High School in Fargo on Saturday, August 13th against the Granite City Renegades. For the live game sheet and all of the stats, go to http://www.northernstatesfootball.org/game/game_sheet/14555288
