Exciting Changes Announced

By Staff 10/25/2014, 12:45pm CDT

New Name, New Teams

The Midwest Premier Football League (MPFL) is excited to announce itself as the Northern States Football League (NSFL).

The Midwest Premier Football League has a rich 4-year history; providing hundreds of exciting games throughout the years.  There have been several teams involved in the league; from Duluth to Fargo, from the Twin Cities to the heart of Minnesota.  All teams have brought pride and passion to the league, giving thousands of young men an opportunity to play the game they love.

We are excited to announce ourselves as the “Northern States Football League".  We will continue to retain the rich history and continue to add to our previous four years of Champions.  We will continue to provide the opportunity for young men to play the game they love.  As we turn to 2015, the core remains intact.  The league will continue to build and grow into a Premier League in the Northern states and beyond!

With change there is excitement, and we are happy to bring you along for the ride!  We encourage you to continue following the league online for news, scores, statistics, and more!  And we thank you for your support during this time of transition.

Along with the change of name, the league is proud to introduce four new teams to the league.  Two new teams from the twin cities area, Mid-America Orioles & Midwest Monarchs; Minnesota Brawlers out of the Mankato area; and the Northland Blitz from Duluth.  These four teams will join last years playoff teams; Champion Fargo Invaders, Runner-Up West Central Broncos, Midwest Nightmare, and the Granite City Renegades.

The Mid-America Orioles are a first year team and will be headquartered in Osseo, MN.  Home games will be held in the northern metro area.  The Orioles are founded by ex-Sting & Titans players, and are in progress of building a very strong team.

The Midwest Monarchs are a first year team with lots of experience.  Willie Holmes guided the West Central Broncos to the Championship game last year, and is now building a team of his own which will play at Burnsville High School & possibly Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN.  The Monarchs should be very competitive with Coach Holmes and other experienced players.

The Minnesota Brawlers played as the Mankato Brawlers in 2013, having a very successful season.  Possible home games will be played at Mankato West, New Ulm, & Gustavous-Adolphus in St. Peter, MN.  The Brawlers experience will make them a tough team in the NSFL.

The Northland Blitz have evolved out of the Duluth area.  Looking to build consistency and wins, the Blitz will try to prove themselves as a power.  Head Coach Chris King has many years of experience, and looks to run a successful organization with Nathan & Naomi Bents.

As the 2015 Season approaches, look for the NORTHERN STATES FOOTBALL LEAGUE to be one of the Premier Leagues in the Midwest.
