What a way to start the season! In a game that looks closer to a baseball score, the Invaders and Renegades defense was on display.
Trailing 0-5, the Renegades Cortez Adams forced a fumble with 1:54 remaining; recovered by Kevin Taylor at the Renegades 14. The Invaders Defense stayed strong forcing a 4th & 6 from the 18. That's when Matt Sickler found Jonas Marshall for 22 yards, moving the chains to the 40 with 1:20 left on the clock. Two plays later Sickler found Devin Payment for 24 yards, moving to the Invaders 36 with 1:09 remaining. After a sack, Marshall again picked up 15 yards, getting to the 24 with 0:46. The Invaders defense tightened up, forcing a 4th & 10 with 0:22 left in the game. That's when Devin Payment made the Play of the Game with an over-the-shoulder catch Touchdown giving the Renegades their only score of the game with 10 seconds left in the game.
Outside of the last drive, the Invaders defense had scored a Safety, forced 5 turnovers, and had only allowed 21 Rushing Yards and 106 Total Offensive Yards. The Renegades defense wasn't bad itself, only allowing All-Star Brandon Jones to rush for 55 yards; overall the Invaders only ran for 101 yards & 109 passing yards.
The Renegades were led by Kyle Crozon's 8 tackles, 2 for a loss; Ryan Fay also had 3 TFL, 2 sacks, a forced fumble, and fumble recovery.
Ronnie Buck anchored the Invaders defense with 11 tackles; Brandon Sloan had 4 tackles, 1 TFL, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, & interception. Martez Buchanan had the 2 Invader sacks.
Next week the Renegades host another NSFL North opponent, the Northland Blitz. The Fargo Invaders have their home-opener against Grand Forks rival, Tri-City Northstars out of the MPFL league.
