Broncos on a 4 game winning streak heading into playoffs

NEW LONDON — Another win over the first-place team will give the West Central Broncos momentum for the Midwest Premier Football League playoffs as they wrapped up the regular season Saturday evening by thrashing the Midwest Nightmare 27-9 at Peterson Field.

The No. 3-seeded Broncos will take a four-game winning streak into this Saturday’s semifinal game against the No. 2 Nightmare. The game will be played at Spring Lake Park High School in north Minneapolis at 6 p.m. The Nightmare, who beat the Broncos 17-6 earlier this season at home, are 6-2 and the Broncos 5-3.

Cameron Halvorson had a pair of first-half rushing touchdowns to give the Broncos a 14-0 lead at halftime Saturday. Halvorson scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and from seven yards out in the second quarter.

A 52-yard field goal in the third quarter got the Nightmare on the board, but Steve Peppin threw a 91-yard TD pass to Diance Davis and Joel Bauman scored on a 49-yard run in the fourth quarter to take a comfortable 27-3 lead.

The Broncos notched 13 sacks — six alone from Emmit Smith and another three from Christian Olson — and ran for 305 yards. Bauman led the rushing attack with 89 yards while Peppin and Brandon King combined to pile up 172 passing yards.
