NEW LONDON — Brandon King threw three touchdown passes, two to Brian Burwell, and Tarrell McDuffie added another score on a 72-yard run Saturday night to help the West Central Broncos thrash the Great Lakes Wolfpack 47-6 at Peterson Field.
The Broncos, who evened their record to 3-3 after winning their second straight, led 21-0 after the first quarter. Great Lakes scored first in the second quarter, but a King-Burwell connection that went for 13 yards allowed the Broncos to take a commanding 27-6 lead at halftime.
The Broncos then added three more scores in the third quarter — King pass to Diance Davis, Jeremiah Run and Steve Peppin pass to Booker Thurmond — to collect their second sizable win over the Wolfpack on the year. The Broncos beat Great Lakes 53-7 on May 3 to open the season.
McDuffie opened the scoring before Emmit Smith scooped up a Great Lakes fumble and rumbled 27 yards to the end zone. The first-quarter scoring was then capped on a King-Burwell connection that covered 37 yards.
The Broncos host the Fargo Invaders this Saturday at 7 p.m. in New London in hopes of running their record at Peterson Field to 8-0.
