There is more then just bragging rights among rivals at stake in this weeks Midwest Premiere League regular season finale.

The 4-3 Brainerd Lumberjacks will host the 4-3 Granite City (St. Cloud) Renegades on Saturday for the Western Division crown and first round bye on the line heading into the postseason.

The Renegades lead the season series 1-0 following a 23-20 win over the Jacks earlier this year.

Coming off of a 40-0 rout of the Twin City Rhinos, Brainerd is confident in their chances.

“The game plan is to be aggressive,” said ‘Jacks head coach JJ Kern.

A vital part of the game plan, Kern said, will be wide receiver Alex Johnson, who has racked up 600 yards and nine scores since joining the ‘Jacks three weeks ago.

“He’s really helped us on the offensive side,” said Kern.

Wade Steier and Mark Humell will both continue to add consistency to the offense while defensive leaders Gyangelo Braden and Titus Cole will both be on the field together for the first time all year.

“The Renegades have a mobile quarterback and like to blitz a lot but we will stay aggressive and make adjustments as the game goes on,” said Kern.

Free Sundrop soda will be given out to the first 100 kids at Harvey Shew Field Saturday while Pizza Ranch will provide the catering.

The Lumberjacks will also be debuting their NFL-style jerseys this week.

“The player’s are excited to show off the new jerseys and we’re excited for the fans to be there,” said Kern.

Kick off is at 4 p.m.
