    Invaders Up-end Sabercats in Semi-Finals

By Bryce Johnson 08/06/2016, 9:16pm CDT

    Invaders 60 - Sabercats 6

The Fargo Invaders took on the Twin Cities Sabercats in the semi-finals of the Northern States Football League playoffs and improved to 10-0, defeating them 60-6. The Invaders strong defense is what set the tempo for the night, ending the game with 2 defensive TD’s and a safety. Overall, a very solid performance by the Invaders, and exactly what they needed heading into the Championship game next weekend.

The Invader offense came out a bit slow to start the game, having early turnovers and getting stuffed short of the goal line on fourth down. The score was 9-0 at the 2 minute warning when the Defense stepped up & scored two Touchdowns right before the half.  After watching the defense have continual success, it eventually rubbed off on the offense. Tony Stauss ended the game with 139 yards on 10/20 passing and 2 INTs, while Justan Taliaferro went 4/8 for 54 yards and a TD. CT Davis continues to find the end zone game after game, this time rushing for 3 TD’s along with 77 yards. Brett Baune added a 48 yard Touchdown, finishing with 3 carries for 83 yards.  Micah Arnold had a good game rushing, having 2 carries for 90 yards and a rushing TD. Ty Small led the game in receptions, hauling in 5 catches for 64 yards. The Invader offense put up a total of 516 yards.

The defense for the Invaders came up huge in this game, routinely making big plays that had even bigger effects on the game. Some very key stops were made near the goal line early on to keep the Sabercats scoreless, while the offense was still trying to find its footing. David Earl made a big play in the first quarter to give the Invaders some much needed momentum, making a huge hit on the Sabercats’ QB Travis Griffin forcing the fumble (picture below), and also recovering it to give the offense the ball. Josh Gaitlin, David Earl, and Brandon Sloan all had an INT on the day for the Invaders. The defense had a total of 11 sacks and gave up 186 yards of total offense.

The Fargo Invaders advance to the league championship that will be played at Shanley High School in Fargo on Saturday, August 13th against the Granite City Renegades. For the live game sheet and all of the stats, go to http://www.northernstatesfootball.org/game/game_sheet/14555288
